Leonard J. (Len) Ariagno, Principal
Leonard J. (Len) Ariagno is the Principal of BTUKWH Power Gen LLC. Clients benefit from his unique experience as a hands-on operating engineer with roots in the US Merchant Marine, his experience as a senior-level Plant Manager and Regional Plant Manger in the results-oriented and accountability-driven IPP world, and all his career experiences in between.
Experience
Mr. Ariagno has decades of experience (since 1973) in power generation line management, including project development, O&M, and asset and construction management. He was Plant Manager of a large base-load electric power generation operation for 15 years and a Regional Plant Manager, overseeing all operations and maintenance at three plants for NRG Energy, Inc. totaling 1,800 MW.
Mr. Ariagno also served as a development partner in multiple site redevelopments. One project utilizing an innovative gasification technology successfully secured all permits required by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Additional projects include redevelopment of two different sites with biomass co-firing and the addition of simple-cycle gas turbine units.
Research
Mr. Ariagno has co-authored several industry technical papers on plant operations, maintenance management programs, plant life extension, and most recently on the gasification technology used in a site re-development project for which he was a development partner.
Prior to working for NRG Energy, Inc., Mr. Ariagno served as Plant Manager, Operations Manager, and Maintenance Manager for Eastern Utilities Associates and as Project Engineer and Lead Field Engineer for Stone & Webster Engineering Corporation. Mr. Ariagno began his career as a Marine Engineer and served as a senior licensed engineering officer on US Flag vessels involved in worldwide trade and commerce.
Mr. Ariagno also served on several New England Power Pool committees and as Chairman of the Unit Availability Task Force. He holds both stationary engineer and U.S. Coast Guard marine engineer senior-level operating licenses.
Educational Background
Mr. Ariagno earned a B.S. in Marine Engineering and Naval Architecture from SUNY Maritime College and an MBA in Finance from Suffolk University.
